Mala Meditation

Mala Meditation & 3 ways it can help with focus

What's Mala Meditation?

Mala meditation is a traditional practice of using a garland of beads called Mala to help focus the mind and achieve a meditative state. It is a form of mindfulness meditation where each bead is used to count repetitions of a chosen mantra or affirmation. The Malas are typically made of 108 beads, which are counted using the fingers.

By focusing on the mantra and the sensation of the beads, the mind becomes calm and centered. Mala meditation is a powerful tool for reducing stress, promoting relaxation, and enhancing overall well-being. It can be practiced by anyone, regardless of religious or spiritual beliefs.

Three ways Mala can help with focus during meditation:

  1. The tactile sensation of the beads in your fingers can create a physical anchor for your attention, keeping your mind from wandering
  2. The repetitive movement of the beads and the mantra can create a calming rhythm that helps to quiet the mind and reduce distractions
  3. The act of counting each bead and reciting the mantra can provide a specific task for the mind to focus on, enhancing concentration.

(by incorporating a Mala into your meditation practice, you may find that it helps you to cultivate greater focus and mental clarity over time).
